Really doesn't seem like one needs AI to solve the personalized feed problem? But it's current_year and swiping left on my Android phone still brings up Sturgeon's Law of shit content, although that's overly charitable, the true hit ratio is under 5%. And I'm with Matt Yglesias anyway, people spend far too much time already on shitty feeds. Imagine how much worse it'd be if the #content was Good, Acktually!

Overviews were okay, in the "I already know the answer I'm looking for, just can't find it" usage. Same with spellchecking and spot definitions, highly verifiable concrete tasks that are simply trivially convenient to type into Google cause the tab's already open, so why not. All the other changes...I'm not saying Nobody Wants This, clearly someone did, but it's just like, why? What exactly was wrong with 10 blue links, other than the SEO Red Queen's Race breaking rankings, which was a self-inflicted wound? You Had One Job! (And it's still good hygiene to RTFL anyway, just in case of hallucinations + one does not simply link to an AI output as a valid form of receipt. Not yet, anyway.) I also note the continued dissembling between billions of MAUs and the fact that hardly anyone ever bothers to change default settings...

Dumb question:

The major AI labs keep reporting refusal rates for CBRN & cyber weaponized use of their models. Given that Pliny (though he is, of course, _extraordinarily_ skilled) keeps successfully jailbreaking each released model, do the refusal rates mean _anything_??? Or should everyone treat them as just security theater?
