Write-up strikes me as pretty naive.

The wrong questions are being asked about fact-checkers, for one. For all the griping people make about them being left-wing or biased in some way, research shows an overwhelming amount of misinformation and outright lies on public platforms are disproportionately made by far-right radical political parties and movements: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/19401612241311886

The issue there is not fact-checkers being political biased in some way, but why there aren't more right-wing fact-checkers? Why isn't the right-wing holding itself to account for when its political figures lie and muddy about the facts of something? This strikes me as a failure on the right side to set some sort of standards for itself or something.

The bit about 'genocide' and misinformation is treated like a joke but there's verifiable proof that Facebook, prior to implementing any content standards, directly fed ethnic cleansing and genocide in Myanmar and India. Some detail on the former here: https://faineg.com/facebook-destroys-everything-part-1/

There's a balance between content standards that prevent mob attacks on minorities and censorship. I dunno why Facebook shouldn't have that balance.

I think the broader issue I don't grasp here is why fact-checking and content moderation is incompatible with free speech. You can still say whatever you want. But if you're spouting some clown shit or just plain wrong, there should be a little tag saying so. Seems smart to me to ensure people get dialogue, debate, etcetera, maybe I'm not overthinking it enough...

I think your support of the changes blinds you a bit to Zuck's true intentions here. I don't think he made any sort of ideologies obvious on the podcast. He's a pure opportunist, and always has been. I mean, we all know the origin story of Facebook already.

He really struck me as a character from the Silicon Valley show on that podcast though. You heard the bow hunting exchange, right? He's so obviously trying to appeal so much to the incoming administration and winds of change.

I think your interpretation of the prior fact checking, the changes, and what will happen is pretty accurate, I just think it fails to appreciate how much of a snake Zuck truly is (but that really doesn't matter all that much on this topic).
