It's hard to avoid reading Amodei's post as "At long last, we have created Moloch from the classic rationalist essay Meditations on Moloch"

Ok, I laughed a lot here, but the tone he gives it is infuriating. Kudos to Dario for talking so openly about the risks, even if sometimes in an overly softened manner. But the underlying feeling that he is saying, "Trust me, we will make it work," feels so overconfident that it is a bit nauseating, really. Unless he is planning for Super Good Claude to go and figure all this stuff out on its own, which I agree is somewhat of a plan, even though this feels really authoritarian (not that I believe that pre-AGI governance ideas such as "democracy" are necessarily sacred in a post-AGI world, but still).
