This doesn't seem to be a popular opinion, but I personally think that we should continue letting Nvidia sell chips to China, in the interests of peace between the US and China.

This is an existential risk question. Not AI risk! The nuclear war risk, the serious risk that has been hanging over us for so long that many have forgotten. But it has not gone away, nor should we expect it to go away in the near future.

Trade between the US and China is good because it provides strong incentives on both sides to be at peace. For TSMC in particular, it is very good for China to be gaining value from TSMC's continued existence.

Trade war can easily escalate into real war. Back in WW2, from Japan's point of view, the US-led embargo against them was so threatening, they thought their hand was forced, into Pearl Harbor. It would be a terrible shame if that sort of history repeated itself.

Even if you don't buy my argument, at least be aware of this as a possible "steelman" for the pro-selling-to-China argument. Peace through mutual incentives.

Why is China winning the AI race bad? Why is the US winning the AI race good? What are the expected outcomes of this race? What does each camp want?
