> I do not think a full pause is warranted at this time, but that could quickly change.

I would be interested in a full post on this.

What are you waiting for? What are the redlines? What are you expecting that 'could' change and why not update on those expectations now?

What would be the ideal time assuming a realistic on-ramp (eg. 3 months for the white house to rush something with an antitrust carve-out, export control enforcement overhaul)?

If we hypothetically paused today, and there were no distillation targets better than Fable or Sol, would this delay "the juice" getting into open models by mid next year? How would that change the analysis? And so on.

There's a moment in Terry Pratchett's Guards! Guards! where the characters calculate their odds of slaying a dragon at one million to one. They hearten themselves with the knowledge that last desperate chances always succeed, because "the gods wouldn't let it be any other way."

I think that's where we're heading with AI. We'll keep pushing the frontier, continuously raising the stakes, until the last desperate chance is the only one left. What happens next, I don't know, but I hope, as Pratchett's characters do, that the gods are on our side and playing by our rules.
