I had a hard time getting in to Better Call Saul as well. I think the storylines were too discursive for me. And the show has a dark aura. Watching Goliath Seasons One and Two. Easy and fun watching if you suspend your disbelief a bit and if you're a "Billy Bob Thornton can do no wrong as an a actor" ideologue like me.

Sharing an experience with paxlovid rebound

n=1; Tested positive rapid PCR (May 8), started experiencing symptoms that morning. 35 year old male 3x pfizer, BMI is 29 but other than that have good vitals. Started paxlovid the same day

Day 0: Rapid PCR positive. Antigen initially negative but positive by the evening. Fever and sore throat. Start one dose of paxlovid in the evening.

Day 1-4: mild symptoms.

Day 5: Antigen negative, finish paxlovid.

Day 6-8: Continue to test 1x per day (all negative) as a precaution as we have a 6 month old in the house and also elderly parents who help take care of her.

Day 9: Wake up with a dry throat. Antigen (-) at 7am. Antigen faint (+) at 1pm. Did not take my temperature but believe I had a minor fever between 1pm-5pm.

Day 10: Faint + in the morning, normal + in the evening. Symptoms 99% resolved by the evening.

Day 11 (today): Not bothering with testing again until tonight.

If I had to do it again maybe I'd just skip the paxlovid? Or maybe start it on day 2? It seemed like a +EV decision at the time.

Just sharing this out of the incredible frustration of having gotten through isolation without giving it to anyone within the family and now presumably looking at another ?? days of isolation.

In the population dense part of Michigan, masking in grocery stores is 50/50 and my office now requires them as the main counties are all “high risk” compared to “medium” a few months ago, per the CDC. Much of this is due to UAW related agreements from the beginning of the pandemic (we will abide by CDC recommendations, whatever they may be). I hope to see us drop back to medium soon, but in the meantime, I’m working from home as much as possible due to personally being over wearing a mask anywhere.

My personal Covid risk tolerance has reached a point where I bought a used coffee toaster from a guy who was currently testing positive and didn’t request any more caution than he offered by doing the deal outside while I wore one of my stash of good N95s.

(Side note: had a bunch of OSHA training shortly before the pandemic, including a section on proper mask fitting for airborne contaminants. You want a Draeger Xplore if you have a beard)

I keep reacting to how what is bad for you would be a giant improvement over here in Sweden. We still have vaccines restricted to 12+, and Paxlovid is simply unavailable, because it’s going to be a joint EU purchase and they failed to secure a deal for six months now.

Better Call Saul is a slow burn, especially the first season, but it really pays off and becomes one of the most compelling dramas on TV.
