When I first started I was confused what to focus on and decided just to upgrade cosmetics. I started with frame breaks and worked up from there.

Agree there's basically no cosmetic benefit to this other than seeing a number go up.

Actually it's worse. The biggest insult is cyclops, who has a cool hearthstone-like animation out of the box. That is more interesting than anything you're unlocking. Attack animations would have been a cool unlock.

In the course of this I made absolutely terrible decks consisting of whatever I hadn't played with. I then won a lot of awful games. Rocks. Bots. Maybe it was the deck matching? Make an awful deck, get to play against people clicking at random. Or maybe I just didn't climb enough.

When I did face any resistance, movement cards created the most challenging and fun midgame moments. Even if not dominant, movement decks can create a new strategic loop in some games that I found rivaled or exceeded the other parts of the game.

I binged a few days, then hit the wall of credits. Having to wait meant the spell was broken. Uninstalled haven't looked back. Not angrily, I'm glad I tried it. I think your precommitments are admirable though.

My idle time is back to reading Twitter, at best a lateral move for mental health.

I played movement up to rank 60 (actually like 65, but i got scared and stopped close to season end haha) when I was still in Pool 2. Definitely no point in playing it if you aren't abusing Hulk Buster + Multi Man. Biggest change I would consider is slotting in Chavez, I felt like the added consistency in early turns really helped the deck to win more. Forge often feels necessary just as a worse Hulk Buster. Haven't unlocked Human Torch yet, but if I had him I would kick Dagger from my list. Feels like she's the weakest of the 4 movement lovers in that deck.

In terms of the economy maybe I just play too much, but I never really felt like I was locked out of progressing my rank by an inferior collection? I haven't used 90% of the Pool 3 cards I've gotten but still feel like I am competitive at rank 60. Maybe this is a problem for higher ranks? The real grind for me comes when all my favourite cards are Legendary and I don't want to take the prolonged aesthetic downgrade of upgrading to Ultra.

Huh, actual attention paid to individual card upgrade status. Glad it's happening at least some.

I dunno about the whole Chavez to draw my early stuff more often strategy, but Movement is a strong candidate for it I suppose, mostly all you lose is some % on Heimdal which hurts but is not a huge deal. I definitely found Movement underpowered in pool 2 (both with it and against it) but I can see it getting into the 60s. I would be more surprised to see it get into 80+.

This game sounds interesting but I really can't bring myself to get invested in these kind of "squish everyone's winrate to 50%" games.

I really hope that game publishers can be convinced to read Richard Garfield's article about why Tournaments are better than Ladders - https://www.gamedeveloper.com/blogs/keep-your-numbers-off-of-me-why-tournaments-support-better-communities-than-ladders
