As we move to ban TikTok, and as we use that move as an excuse to pass a new supercharged Patriot Act for the entire internet, every other social network including Twitter moves to transform itself into TikTok. Twitter under Elon Musk is unique in that it has a second goal, a mission of the utmost importance. To charge you $8.
Haven't read the full post yet but an update to "That means most accounts you follow won’t even be eligible to appear, and the others won’t appear often." -- Elon clarifies this is not the case: https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1640800519894736896
Thanks for a useful summary of the impact of all this change. My web 1.0 system of dealing with Twitter: I don’t have an account, have a small number of bookmarks of accounts I like on nitter, and periodically review them when I want something to read. It led me to subscribe here so I must be doing something right!
Skipped... I do zero social media, unless substack counts. My kids like/use Tik-Tok.
You forgot your obligatory TikTok Is Chinese Spyware, Do Not Use warning.
As usual, thanks for keeping me up to date on Twitter so I can keep a pulse on social media developments without using it. It's good to know what's happening to everyone else's information flows.
